This four-part entry-level job readiness series helps youth, newcomers, and those with limited experience build resumes, ace interviews, and understand workplace expectations to succeed.

Looking for work in Regina’s most common entry-level jobs - such as retail sales associate, restaurant server, cleaner or housekeeper, warehouse worker, construction labourer, caregiver, parking attendant, or security guard? This workshop teaches you how to understand workplace expectations, avoid common mistakes, build strong relationships with supervisors and co-workers, and set yourself up for success from day one.

This session is conducted on Zoom, click on the following link to join:

Imagine you got the job! Now let’s make sure you succeed on the job. Many entry-level roles have expectations and “unwritten rules” that aren’t always explained clearly, especially for newcomers or those returning to work after a long break. This session will help you understand what employers really look for so you can become a dependable, valued member of the team in jobs like retail, restaurant service, housekeeping, warehouse work, caregiving, construction labour, security, and other frontline positions.

Through practical examples and real workplace scenarios, you’ll learn how to build a strong reputation, avoid common mistakes that lead to warnings or termination, and develop the habits that help employees grow, stay employed, and earn better opportunities.

You will learn how to:

  • Demonstrate reliability through punctual attendance, communication, teamwork, and a positive attitude - even during stressful shifts.
  • Respond to feedback and correct mistakes professionally without feeling embarrassed, defensive, or overwhelmed.
  • Understand and follow essential workplace policies, including safety rules, phone use, break times, dress requirements, and respectful behaviour.
  • Work effectively with co-workers and supervisors, handle conflict calmly, and show initiative in everyday tasks.
  • Avoid the top pitfalls that cause new employees to be let go, such as inconsistent performance, lack of communication, or misunderstanding expectations.
  • By the end of this workshop, you’ll feel confident, prepared, and ready to succeed - not just on your first day, but throughout your entire journey in the workplace.
