Join artist Meera Sethi in a workshop that explores the relationship between seeing, drawing, and cloth. Bring a digital or physical photograph of someone wearing patterned fabric to the workshop.
This event will happen In-Person at Sherwood Village Branch. Materials provided (NOTE: please bring a digital/physical photograph of someone wearing patterned fabric to the workshop).
Good for adults, but families welcome. By thinking about the concept of "unskilled labour" as it relates to the garment industry, we will consider the skill and labour that goes into the making of textile and clothing. We will then continue this investigation by translating images of cloth into drawings.
Bring a digital or physical photograph of someone wearing patterned fabric to the workshop. We will use this as source material to create a macro version of this micro view of worn clothing. By doing so, we will slow down our process of viewing images, imagine the larger fabric this fragment has been cut from, and think about the life-cycle of clothing. Paper, magnifying glasses and dry media such as coloured pencils and markers will be provided. You may also bring your own.
We invite you to also join us afterwards for the Opening Reception & Talk - ritual intimacies

Through her work, she delves deep into the ways we understand and appreciate cloth, clothing, and the worn body, including its histories, its resonances, and its possibilities. meerasethi.com
