Cook along at home: The recipe will be emailed out to registrants ahead of time. Make sure you have the following ingredients on hand.
- 3/4 cup butter
- 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed into measuring cup)
- 2/3 cup molasses (I use fancy)
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 3 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1 tbsp each ground ginger and ground cinnamon
- 1/2 tsp ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 ground black pepper
- optional "not so secret" ingredient: 1 tsp orange zest
- 4 cups icing sugar
- 3 tbsp meringue powder
- 9-10 tbsp room temperature water
- 1 tsp clear vanilla (I use Mexican vanilla)
Equipment needed: Large bowl, medium bowl, small bowl, whisk, wooden spoon, baking sheet, parchment, piping bag, measuring cup, measuring spoons, cookie cutters, oven
Presenter Bio: Jodi Robson is a proud member of the Okanese First Nation in Treaty Four Territory. She is of Cree and Nakoda heritage. Thanks to her successful run as a finalist in season 3 of CBC's The Great Canadian Baking Show, Jodi was able to showcase her culture and culinary skills nationwide. During the season 5 Holiday Special, she was once again able to share her passion for baking and the inspiration derived from her family and life as an Indigenous woman.
Jodi resides in Regina, with her partner and their two children. Together, they enjoy the outdoors while camping, hiking, and foraging year-round.
