The Single Life: Making Single Panel Cartoons
Regina Comic Arts Festival
Saturday, November 07
2:30pm - 3:30pm
Making Single Panel Cartoons for your own amusement.
Bring along you creativity and enthusiasm. Graeme will explore the history of gag cartoons and lead participants through a series of exercises to help develop their own ideas into finished gag panel comics. Workshop to take place in the Dunlop Art Gallery.
Graeme Zirk is a Cartoonist, Illustrator and Art Director living and working in Treaty 4, Regina.
He has worked in creative industry for close to twenty years, he has been drawing and writing silly pictures since he could hold a pencil and read a Mad Magazine. Wary to ever put financial and career pressure on his most beloved art form and pastime, he eventually cracked at age 39 and self-published a couple years worth of clandestine single panel cartoons titled “Flat Cola” and tabled it at Prairie Comics Festival in Winnipeg and Regina Comic Arts Fest (in Regina). He was elated to see, be seen and break even.
In his spare time he has lead sketchbook workshops at the Neil Balkwill Civic Arts Centre and steered the visual identity of The Cathedral Village Arts Festival.
