Campfire Stories

Ages 16 and over. Make your own digital story! Join us for stimulating, fun, and introspective storytelling workshops organized by CBC/Radio-Canada.

This is an in-person program.  Register to receive a reminder and any other resources.

During the four-workshop series, you will learn how to transform your personal anecdotes into a digital story (short video) using your voice, your words, photos, and videos. Digital stories are short, personal stories, reflecting you, the participants. Your stories can be funny, serious, touching... It is up to you to decide! The duration of the story will be approximately 2 minutes, no longer. Your participation in these workshops is important, as it allows your personal stories, which are all unique to be shared. We love to hear different experiences and perspectives!

The workshops are led by Janani Whitfield from the CBC and Nicole Lavergne Smith from Radio-Canada in English or in French, your choice!

March 14- We all have a story to tell!
In this workshop, you will discover that we all have a story to tell! We start with a sharing and learning session through different activities. By the end of the workshop, your mission will be to determine which story you will transform into a video!

March 21- Developing Your Stories
Following a week of reflection, we will work together to develop your story a little further. This will be the opportunity to think about the structure of your story and to tell it many times to see what works best! We will also see how we can illustrate your story with your own photos and videos.

March 28- The Art of Storytelling

It’s time to refine the art of storytelling! In this workshop, the goal is to get very comfortable telling your story in an authentic way. You will not need to learn your story completely by heart. We would like you to get very comfortable with the different parts of your story so that it comes out as naturally as possible on the day we record!

April 4- Production Day:
We record your story!! Together, we will determine the photos, videos, illustrations, and other elements necessary for the editing process.

On April 25, there will be a presentation of your digital story. An opportunity for the public and your loved ones to see your final project! This will also be a chance to learn more about the services offered by your library.

Key Information

• You can choose between a French or an English workshop.
• We strongly suggest that participants attend all four workshops to ensure the success of the project.
• There will be little surprises for all participants at each workshop!!
• If you agree, the stories may be published or go on air on CBC or Radio-Canada!

Presenter Information: 

Nicole Lavergne Smith: For the past 18 years, Nicole Lavergne Smith has worked for Radio-Canada as a videojournalist with a strong focus on engagement in Saskatchewan’s Fransaskois community. Her role involves being a digital reporter, posting fun videos alongside local human-interest stories. 

Janani Whitfield: Janani Whitfield is a community engagement producer with CBC Saskatchewan, and works on projects aimed at building storytelling and connection, ranging from First Person writing workshops to our series highlighting wins of small-town communities.
