Name and Gender Marker Change Information Session

Learn how to change your name and/or gender marker on a wide variety of documents with folks from Trans Sask and Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan.

Ages 18 and up. This program is conducted through Zoom. Register to receive the Zoom link, a reminder, the evaluation, and any resources.

It can be confusing to navigate the numerous government agencies to start using your chosen name and your gender in legal settings. This information session will help guide you through the process.

About the presenters:

Elijah or Eli (he/him) was born, raised and is living in Saskatoon on Treaty 6 land.  He is a graduate from the Medical Office Assistant program and is currently the Saskatoon & North trans Health Navigator. Eli is passionate about gender affirming care and reducing barriers for community members. When he is not in the office you can find him kayaking, hanging out with his cats or doing a puzzle.

Trans Sask is a province wide non-profit organization that supports and acts as a resource network for gender minorities including trans, genderqueer, nonbinary and gender nonconforming persons, their families, partners, friends and community. Carly Romanow (she/her) is the Executive Director & Staff Lawyer at Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan. Carly graduated from the University of Saskatchewan College of Law in 2014. Carly articled and practiced in private practice until July of 2016 when she joined PBLS. Carly has been an active participant in pro bono services programs throughout her career and is an active member of the legal community and the local community, sitting on non-profit boards and volunteering with various organizations.

Pro Bono Law Saskatchewan is a non-profit, non-government organization that provides free legal advice to clients with low-income in Saskatchewan. PBLS tries to fill the gap in legal services between government funded Legal Aid and hiring a private lawyer.

PBLS primarily assists with changing names on birth certificates and gender markers on health cards. Once you have those foundation documents changed, then you can use them to change names/gender at other organizations. PBLS operates 14 Free Legal Clinics across Saskatchewan, including 3 in Regina, one being at the downtown Regina Public Library. PBLS can give advice in every area of law.
