For Yule: Susie Gourlay has been practicing witchcraft for over 25 years. They am a member of the Congregationalist Wiccan Association of Saskatchewan (CWAS)- The Sage Wind Temple, and the Awakened Soul Coven. Susie finds the craft helps her become more in sync with Earth's natural rhythms, changes in the seasons as well as connecting her to people of the past and time-honoured traditions. Susie is also a certified tarot reader and sling cards at The Broom Closet on top of hosting a monthly tarot circle and podcast.
For Ukrainian Christmas: Holly Paluck was raised in a family that practiced the cultural traditions of their ancestors throughout the year and learned of the Ukrainian customs associated with the Christmas season. These customs have been passed from generation to generation. She has a passion for ethno-cultural studies, those associated with the Ukrainian-Canadian experience as well as Ukraine. She understands the diversity within and among Ukrainian people and their expressions of this season that varies from region to region and family to family. Holly continues to be very involved in the Ukrainian community at the local, provincial, and national levels and looks forward to sharing some of the cultural traditions and customs with session participants.
For Sagaalgan- White Month: Alex Oehler is Assistant Professor of Anthropology at the University of Regina. Anthropology is the systematic and comparative study of societies and cultures around the world. Alex’s research focuses on human-animal relations in the North, both in Siberia and Arctic Canada.
For Yalda: Parvin Yazdanparast moved from Tehran, Iran, to Regina in 2019, to study Master of Public Policy at the University of Regina. Currently, Parvin is a Planning and Policy Consultant in Ministry of Finance. Parvin derives joy from learning about different cultures and is passionate to contribute towards creating public value. Parvin also holds a strong interest in non-profit leadership and has supported various environmental, social, and diversity and inclusion initiatives through various volunteer roles within her 4 years in Regina.
