BrainDance integrates developmental movements that help to wire the brain and nervous system for young children. Through dancing joyfully and responding to live music, an environment can be created that leaves young children feeling calm, engaged and connected to their bodies.

Ashley Johnson is a dance and somatic movement educator living on Treaty 4 land. She holds a BA dance from University of Calgary, a diploma in dance from Grant MacEwan College and special training in sport science from the University of Hong Kong. Her training in child developmental dance was completed in Seattle with dance education pioneer Anne Green Gilbert.  Ashley has taught Anne’s work BrainDance for 12 years in schools around Saskatchewan. She spent seven years as an artist in residence and projects with Living Sky School division. Ashley believes dance and music can teach people from all walks of life to regulate, slow down and breathe deeply. She has taught her unique blend of dance and somatics at national conferences, schools, early childhood centers, universities, public health centers, libraries and dance studios. Find her here

Clinton Ackerman has a diverse artistic practice, working as a composer, sound designer, and music educator. He has an MFA in Interdisciplinary Studies with a focus on music and social work from the University of Regina. Collaboration is central to Clinton’s creative practice and he has enjoyed composing/designing for many stages and productions around Saskatchewan. As a community-engaged artist he facilitates creative arts programming with youth for the holistic benefits the arts promote. Clinton recently launched an interdisciplinary arts education company called Pantala Arts Lab and is excited to see what the future holds for this new endeavour.
