Join Regina poet Neil Aitken for a night of poetry readings and open-mic spots at Regina Public Library, featuring Carol Rose GoldenEagle, Peace Akintade, and Chelsea Coupal. Bring poems to read!

Celebrate the opening of Regina Public Library's new Community Commons space from sundown until midnight during Nuit Blanche Regina 2022. Joining our host Neil Aitken will be three acclaimed Saskatchewan poets: Carol Rose GoldenEagle, Peace Akintade, and Chelsea Coupal.

Neil Aitken works as a poet, editor, translator, writing coach, and served as Regina Public Library's Writer-in-Residence for the 2021-2022 season. He has authored two acclaimed books of poetry, a chapbook, and a host of pieces in magazines, anthologies, and elsewhere.

Peace Akintade is an African-Canadian poet, public speaker, thespian and Saskatchewan's Youth Poet Laureate for 2020-21, residing in Saskatoon. Her poems touch on growing up in Kuwait, Nigeria and Canada, the impact of slavery in the village in which she lived in Africa, colourism, and relearning her culture in the face of colonization.

Chelsea Coupal's first poetry collection, Sedley (Coteau, 2018), was selected by Chapters Indigo for an Indigo Exclusive edition and shortlisted for three Saskatchewan Book Awards; her work has won the City of Regina Writing Award; been nominated for the Pushcart Prize and appeared in more than a dozen Canadian literary journals and anthologies.

Carol Rose GoldenEagle (previously Carol Daniels) is Cree/Dene with roots in Sandy Bay, northern Saskatchewan. She is a published novelist, poet, playwright, visual artist, and musician, and also serves as the 2021 - 2023 Saskatchewan Poet Laureate. Before pursuing her art on a full-time basis, Carol worked as a journalist for more than 30 years in television and radio.

Readings from these established poets will be peppered through the nights, intermingling with open-mic opportunities for Nuit Blanche revelers. Bring your own poetry to read - or read someone else's - and then stop by Regina Public Library's Karaoke Party in our Digital Media Studio!
