Join us for an online and in-person conversation with Canadian-Colombian musician and interdisciplinary artist, Lido Pimienta, as she discusses her recent album, Miss Colombia, and her multi-faceted artistic practice. Pimienta will be joined by Regina-based filmmaker and artist, shimby gebrehiwot, whose work is on view in Dunlop Art Gallery’s current exhibition, for those of us who live at the shoreline. This discussion will be moderated by Dunlop’s Director/Curator Alyssa Fearon.

Presented in partnership with the Regina Folk Festival.

Lido Pimienta s a Colombian Canadian musician, singer, and songwriter. She rose to prominence after her 2016 album, La Papessa, won the $50,000 2017 Polaris Music Prize. Her music incorporates a variety of styles and influences, including traditional indigenous and Afro-Colombian musical styles such as Cumbia and Bullerengue, as well as contemporary synthpop and electronic music.

Hagere Selam “shimby” Zegeye-Gebrehiwot is an artist, writer and administrator who currently works and resides between Treaty 1 and Treaty 4 territories. They have received funding from municipal, provincial and national arts councils as well as awards from local and transnational arts organizations. Their practice engages with themes of place and it’s abstraction from a diasporic, queer and feminist perspective. Currently, they are the Executive Director at the Saskatchewan Filmpool Cooperative, Co-Director of WNDX Festival of Moving Image and guest editor of the forthcoming Art&Wonder publication.

Alyssa Fearon currently holds the position of Director/Curator at the Dunlop Art Gallery, Regina Public Library. Integral to Fearon’s curatorial practice is a community-based approach that prioritizes the voices of historically underrepresented groups. Her national experience as an arts professional has equipped her with a broad understanding of the Canadian arts sector and its needs.
