Chicago-based artist Andrea Carlson will discuss her creative process, where she goes for inspiration, and where her visions for new work are conceived.
Andrea Carlson (Ojibwe, b. 1979) is a visual artist and writer currently living on Potawatomi land in Chicago, Illinois. Carlson’s layered practice includes painting, drawing, and arts writing on subjects ranging from museum studies, Indigenous Futurisms, and assimilation metaphors in film. Her art is in the collections of the British Museum, the Minneapolis Institute of Art, the Walker Art Center, and the National Gallery of Canada. Carlson received awards from McKnight Foundation (2008), Joan Mitchell Foundation (2016), and 3Arts “Make A Wave” (2020).
