Lisa Ray’s moving and frank memoir, Close to the Bone, is a tale that will make you question your own beliefs about celebrity, glamour and privilege. With one of the most recognizable faces in the world and a household name in India for her movie roles, Lisa Ray’s story takes us into her nomadic life as an artist and activist. From her father’s India to her mother’s Poland to her own childhood in 1970s Toronto (among many other lands), Ray shows us a truly emblematic 20th and 21st century life, along with all the struggles of that emblematic life. Even a cancer diagnosis in 2009 hardly seems to slow her down, and she documents stem cell transplants between movie roles and international flights.
Lisa Ray talks with famed Indo-Canadian film director and screenwriter, Deepa Mehta, about her book: volume one of her life so far.
