Streamed on Dunlop Art Gallery's Instagram Live
Soukayna's Instagram Takeover runs from Thursday December 3rd to Sunday December 6th.
Soukayna is a multidisciplinary artist, curator, and writer with a background in film, art history, and French literature. Soukayna’s work is largely motivated by the dichotomies of their identity as a queer Muslim Moroccan and aims to center marginalized voices and erased histories in their writing and artistic practice. In 2018, Soukayna published WORDS, a book of poetry based on their personal experience with home, longing, abuse, mental health and healing. In addition to writing, Soukayna has given talks and lectures on alternative approaches to the art history canon with a specific interest for the African continent, and has participated in multiples panels discussing identity and care work in the art world and beyond. They also act, model, direct, and enjoy researching topics related to history, visual studies, and psychology.
Marina Fathalla is a multidisciplinary artist and writer based in Tkaronto and Mississauga. Her research projects are fueled by a particular sensitivity to site, at the intersection of its poetics and its politics. Sometimes motivated by her position within the Egyptian diaspora in Canada, her research looks to history of land through, and in the margins of the heritage site.
