A panel of local entrepreneurs and business leaders will have an open discussion about what it takes to succeed in running a small business in Saskatchewan. 

Small Business Week is a national celebration of Canadian entrepreneurs and their contribution to Canada’s economy. Regina Public Library (RPL) will be hosting a two-week long series of events and education workshops to support and celebrate with the local business community.

The launch event features a panel of three entrepreneurs sharing their entrepreneurial stories and discussing what it takes to become a successful entrepreneur. This event serves to recognize the small business community by providing a place for business leaders, entrepreneurs, and professionals to gather, celebrate, learn, and inspire.

Panel speakers include:

Jennifer Dubois, Owner of Miyosiwin Salon Spa

Jennifer Dubois is the Owner and lead stylist of Miyosiwin Salon Spa. She has been a Journeyperson Hairstylist for over 15 years and earned a B.Admin from the First Nations University of Canada in 2015, with a major in Marketing.  In 2012, Dubois pitched her business idea to the Aboriginal CBC BoomBox Competition and placed second. Five years later, she was able to see her pitch come to fruition as she opened her own commercial business. In 2017, Dubois was named one of CBC Saskatchewan’s Future 40 under 40.  She has also since been nominated and listed as a top three finalist for the 2018 Young Entrepreneur Paragon Award as well as nominated for the 2018 YWCA Woman of Distinction Award. Jennifer is grateful to have her husband and two young children in her corner supporting and cheering her on along the way through all of her hard work and dedication as a young entrepreneur.

Bradyn Parisian, Owner of Mo’Solar Company

Bradyn Parisian is a well-respected Métis business and community leader that resides in Regina, SK with his wife and three young children. Bradyn is the Founder of Mo’ Solar Company Ltd. - a renewable energy company that provides solar PV system solutions and energy efficiency advice to residential, commercial and agricultural customers.  He is also the President and principal consultant for Vincent Developments Inc., a management consulting company that serves a diverse group of clients across Saskatchewan.

Bradyn currently serves as a corporate director on the boards of Economic Development Regina, George Gordon Developments, Cowessess Ventures, Gabriel Housing Corporation and the First Nations Power Authority.  He is the Past President & Chairman of Conexus Credit Union.

A proud U of R graduate, Bradyn possesses MBA and Bachelor of Business Administration (Finance) degrees, and is an ICD.D holder.  He has also completed a professional certificate in corporate innovation & entrepreneurship from Stanford University, in addition to executive education programs at Rotman, Queen’s University, the Disney Institute and the Schulich School of Business.

He also serves as the Executive-in-Residence for Indigenous Entrepreneurship and teaches as a sessional instructor at the University of Regina, and currently teaches business courses at the Hill & Levene Schools of Business and First Nations University of Canada. In his spare time, Bradyn has also devoted a considerable amount of his time towards mentoring youth and coaching minor sports.

Mary Weimer, Chief Member Experience Officer at Conexus Credit Union, Owner of Assiniboia Gallery

Mary was born and raised in Regina. A University of Regina graduate, Mary and her husband, Jeremy, have owned the Assiniboia Gallery since 1999. In 2013, Mary took leave from the day-to-day operations of the gallery and joined Hillberg & Berk as its Chief Operating Officer. In July 2018, Mary joined Conexus Credit Union as its Chief Member Experience Officer. 

As Chief Member Experience Officer at Conexus, Mary will design the future focused member experience for the organization as well as lead Financial Wellness, Marketing, Public Relations, Community Investment and Cultivator – Canada’s first credit union led business incubator.

Mary has been involved in several non-profit organizations over the years as a volunteer board member: Globe Theatre, Sask Art and currently, Youth Ballet Company of Saskatchewan and the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce. Mary and her husband, Jeremy, live in Regina with their four children.

The launch day event will be followed by a full slate of workshops in the next couple of weeks:

About the branch

Central Library, the largest of the nine Branches in the Regina Public Library system, is a social and informational hub in the heart of downtown Regina. The Library maintains an extensive calendar of programs, training opportunities, art exhibits in the Dunlop Art Gallery, along with film screenings in the Library's very own repertory film theatre!
